The Edward VanBuskirk Adaptive Equipment Fund

First Steps had the honor and privilege of knowing Mr. VanBuskirk just a short time. He was however a very special person. Sadly, Mr. VanBuskirk, who was suffering from Age Related Macular Degeneration, passed away Monday, December 15, 2003. He leaves a loving wife of 57 years and 7 children and numerous grand-children. He was obviously loved and respected by them all.

I, myself was very impressed with his spirit and willingness to accept new challenges and learn new ways to do things with adaptive tools. In his name and dedicated to his memory, we are establishing the Edward VanBuskirk Adaptive Equipment Fund. It will be a separate fund, solely for the purpose of enabling us to purchase adaptive equipment for individuals like Mr. Van Buskirk.

First Steps for the Blind is sad to announce the death of our friend and client, Mrs. Ruth boyer. Ruth had been with us for a year or so and she was a lovely woman. She left us on Saturday afternoon March 6th, after suffering a heart attack and stroke. She leaves family and friends who loved and cared for her. She was a generous woman who loved to read and donated many many books to our books on tape library. May God bless you Ruth. We will miss you.

Love,
Cathy and all of your other friends at First Steps

If you would like to contribute to the Edward J. Van Buskirk Adaptive Equipment Fund, you may do so at the address below. Please specify in the memo portion of your check that it is for the adaptive equipment fund. We may have only known him for a short time but he will be remembered by us and now by everyone who receives equipment purchased with money from this fund. Thank you.
