First Steps for the Blind does everything we possibly can to assist our clients. We are not financially able at this time to purchase equipment for those who cannot afford it and fall between the cracks of the government agencies.
You can help by donating equipment that you or your visually impaired family member can no longer use. This equipment can be anything from magnifiers, writing aids, talking products, or anything that a visually impaired person may find useful. We have a mini lending library of books on tape for new clients who do not have their NLS machines yet. This has proved to be very popular and clients are grateful for everything. Please consider us when a vision change has made the equipment you have ineffective for you, it will help someone else. Since it is adaptive equipment being mailed to a blind individual it will qualify to be mailed under "Free Matter for the Blind". Please contact us if you have any equipment or books on tape that you wish to donate.
